I also had a problem with the 8.04 to 8.10 upgrade and even after a
clean install.

However, I've recently installed 9.04 and everything works perfectly.
I have a Dell Latitude D620 which has the following information:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS
110M/GeForce Go 7300] (rev a1)
03:01.0 CardBus bridge: O2 Micro, Inc. OZ601/6912/711E0
CardBus/SmartCardBus Controller (rev 40)
09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5752
Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02)
0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g (rev 01)

My graphics card is an nVidia card and it works.

Both the wireless card and the nVidia card needed proprietary hardware
drivers which were downloaded and installed via a wizard that popped
up after the installation.

What you can probably do to test your hardware is run the live CD.

Cheers!

Andrew.
