Skype on 8.10

It is with interest that I have been reading about the problems with 
Skype on ubuntu 8.10. I don't have a solution to the reported problems, 
but I do have an observation. Why do we chase after the  latest version 
and newest release  of  Ubuntu\Suse\ Debian\Mandriva\etc. when the old 
version works just fine?  I used Ubuntu 6.04\6.10\7.04\7.10 with 
complete satisfaction. Ubuntu 8.04 gave me a problem which I tried to 
solve for 6 months with no success. Switching to Linux Mint 5 solved my 
problem. When Linux Mint 6 arrived, I installed it. Problems again. I 
reinstalled Linux Mint 5, and my problems disappeared. "If it ain't 
broke, don't fix it".  George Borusiewich
