What should I do?

I'm not sure what The Source will say about you returning the cam, but I
found this page very helpful when I bought a cam recently:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SkypeWebCams
Print it off and take it along to the store and you have a good chance of
getting something that works.
One other thing, webcam support is improving in Ubuntu -- intrepid was
better than hardy (with some notable exceptions), so maybe waiting 6 months
will solve your problem ;)
