I started with a tandy HX with not one but two 720 K drives dos
2.something if I recall correctly. 8086 or 8088

486 with pc-dos 7 then os/2 2.11 os/2 warp 3 and warp 4 I made use of
x on that and played with free and net bsd

PIII dual booted win 95 and warp 4 until family folks got their own
machines then i Ired of cobbling together support for os/2 and ran win
2kpro for about six months before installing Breezy

Laptop 1.7 ghz Pentium M class dual booted xp (for access at
University) and ubuntu until the connection issues with linux were
resolved with help from a Linux user on faculty. since then the
proprietary requirements have gone away and access is easy.

running 8.10 on the same venerable lappy today.

seems that I managed to skip generations of processors by using better
OS's I was running a two line bbs on warp 3 and 4 while having the
machine serve as the main computer. for a short while the bbs was even
telnet-able.

The computer has always been about writing and communication for me so
I am only and incidental computer geek

Ubuntu has been easy for me but I have been self taught from cli Dos
