Sharepoint and "lemonware"

In my experience, Sharepoint (and similar heavy solutions) are
'lemonware'. I am skeptical that their lifecycle costs can be justified,
especially but not limited to this economic climate.

Recognizing that the discussion so far as been about the "how's" and not
the "why's" I recommend that any proposed solutions be given an acid
test before design is attempted: Can the business afford it? Is it
actually delivering value?
