It probably conflicts with something else.
I'd run sudo aptitude update in a terminal and see what it tells me
(I'm sure you can get Synpatic to tell you as well, just not as
familiar with that tool.
If the output isn't clear, then do sudo aptitude install libmlt-data
and you'll get the whole story.
