I had a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+Del), but that did not work
either. I recall something showing an update process running at one
point, but I'm not sure if that relates to the problem.

I eventually did a new installation, updated everything, then resized
my partitions overnight, as the root was too big and my separate /home
was a bit small for all the data I wanted to store. I had to add
another partition, but then I had another place to back up my home
partitions as well. It seems to be working well now.

I miss wowing the Vistans and Mac groupies with the Compiz effects,
but my back has messaged me with thanks for the reduced weight of the
new netbook... What to stuff into all that extra space in the
backpack? Padding?
