Firewalls and virus scaners?

I would say everybody should have a firewall no matter what OS they are
running. Now having said that if your computer is on an internal network
which is connected to the Internet via a router, then you already have
one in the router.

As far as I know, most virus checkers on Linux look for Windows viruses
only. They are useful if you still have windows clients on your
network, and your linux box is working as a mail server. However if your
network is 100% linux, then they are unnecessary, for the simple reason
that there are so few Linux targeted viruses out there in the first place.
