grub2 install problems and partial fix

tried to grub legacy but it also failed to grub rescue

from ubuntu live rescue CD
mount /dev/sda3 /mnt
mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev
mount --bind /proc /mount/proc
chroot /mnt
mv /boot/grub /boot/grub_backup
aptitude purge grub-pc grub-common os-prober
aptitude install grub grub-common os-prober

The glue I needed! This met that the mbr on either of the disk was wrong. So I wiped the mbr on both disks. This allowed me to boot into windows again.

The reinstall grub
ubuntu live cd
mount /dev/sda3 /mnt
mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev
mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc

grub
> find /boot/grub/stage1
>root (hd0,2)
> setup (hd0)
exit

reboot

from within ubuntu
aptitude install grub-pc grub-common os-prober

reboot

from within ubuntu

upgrade-from-grub-legacy

reboot
mostly worked, but did not have the right disk uuid for debian partition

seem a little stuck on this one....

I have looked at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/403408
comment #10 resulted in a new error
you need to load the kernel first

ubuntu and windows boots fine, but debian amd64 fails with the above error.

This is where I am stuck.

----------
because this was not a ubuntu install it did not automatically detect the windows and the debian 64 os which will be a windows virtualbox
