A crazy idea?

Hello folks,
As it happens, this is my first email to the Ubuntu Canada mailing list. In
fact, it's my first email to any mailing list. Anyhow, I had an idea last
night that I thought might work out all right and need you folks to help
(providing it is general thought to be a good idea).
So, the idea I came up with was to write an open source Ubuntu book where
anyone could write appropriate topics and it would all get included in the
book. I have read around a bit that this type of idea is not a very good one
because of all the people with the different writing styles and everything
but I thought that if we could get a person in the community to take on the
job of an editor (could be me or someone else, doesn't matter), they could
rewrite portions of it to make it all sound roughly the same in terms of
style and quality.
If this was successful, we could put the proceeds back into the Canadian
Ubuntu community.
Why do we need another Ubuntu book? With the combined efforts of everyone
(or some people) on this list or off this list in the Canadian Ubuntu
community, we should be able to create a book that is worth reading due
partially to everyone's different experiences with Ubuntu. We could section
it off into different parts, each focusing on a different 'flavour' of
Ubuntu or Desktop/Server, etc.
So, what does everyone think?
