Hi, I wonder if anyone has experienced this problem? I have reported it
as bug#503428 in Launchpad but not getting much feedback. I am using
Ubuntu 9.1 and Gnome desktop, when I play about 45 minutes Ubuntu
crashes and I have to log back in. Not all that important but annoying.
It does this every time. Ray

Hi Ray:

I have 9.10 and play that game too, but my confuser does not crash.

It could be a kettle of fish from something completely different.

Dust and Confusers don't mix. Fans blow dust around and then the
heat-sinks get dust on them, and then things start to over heat. I do a
bit of cleaning every 4 months. If you got a Tower Computer, I take out
the heat-sinks and clean and oil the fans. Clean the grills where Air is
going through them. Clean some of the circuit boards that have dust
build-up on them.

Look at the Temperature, of you Chasis, and the CPU, usually found in
the Bios somewhere. Record what they are when you have just cleaned the
Confuser. Then in 4 months time, look at it again, how much higher are
the temperatures.

If you got Rugs in your place, then perhaps you need to do this cleaning
more often.

If you Smoke in your place, then it might need cleaning every two
months. Smoking and Rugs every month! Got a Wood Stove, every two
months!

I re-seat all the Boards, I put on new Thermal Grease. Clean out the CD
Rom / DVD Drive, with a Q tip and Alcohol. Dust builds up in these
things too. Clean the lens, with a DVD Cleaner Disk, Don't touch the
lens with a Q-Tip, as there are lots of little wires in the Focus
Electromagnet, that can break.

Don't use Water to do the cleaning, as some parts contain Iron, and can
Rust.

Make sure when you put it back together that it is completely Dry. That
all parts are Aligned Correctly.

Doing stuff like this makes it so that your Confuser lasts for a Decade,
or more. It really minimizes crashes too.

Always spray the cleaner into the cloth, and only enough to make it
Damp, not Dripping. Especially to clean Monitors, and Mother Boards.

a 266 Mhz Confuser I had still works. My Linux Tower- Box, is going on 6
years old now, still works - No Crashes!

Don't wear Static-ky Clothes when you do this.

Oh, and you need to be Calm and Patient when you do this work, because
inflammation words, can give the confuser a Heart Attack! :-))

Alfred!
