Ray, unless I'm missing something, I would leave the BIOS alone....there
are many bug reports about this problem (there are at least 8 separate
reports) and it seems that many users are getting X restarted (not a
full reboot, but a restart of the GUI)

I would follow that bug on launchpad and wait for the to fix the
problem.....and I would strongly recommend you NOT pull your computer
apart and start messing with heatsinks and thermal paste (especially if
you've never done that sort of thing before)
