The new copyright law.

Hi all,
Another way to influence how a government run is to provide a real result of what we do and believe in.
I am not sure how we can go about it, but if we can learn from other countries where the government initiates Linux (Ubuntu, etc) OS to all level of school system in its country.
With a lot of discussion about the high cost and cost cutting to school budget, I am sure that if Linux community can come up with an alternative solution to the expensive cost of purchasing and maintaining the computer systems that are compatible to Microsoft Windows, the government will listen.
At the same time, we can propose to provide help with individual MPs/MPPs computing system (i.e. installing Ubuntu and providing a hands-on tutorial on how to use it). This will definitely provide them with an insight into what we are all about.
Keep in mind that most politicians' understanding of Linux, OpenSource, GPL, etc are the same as the general public understand of linux that you need to be a computer wiz to use it.
So if we can show them and provide a hands-on experience of using a Linux system, I am sure that their opinion on Linux, GPL, OpenSource and all the good things that we hold dearly will change on our favour.
Just my two cents...
P.S. I will volunteer to be the tutor if anyone will be able to convince a politician to use Linux. I live in Durham Region.

Well, while this is true, we have already seen in Germany,
how the 2% the Pirate Party obtained in the first federal
election they entered, has changed the big parties actions.
The Internet censorship law was immediately after the election
scrapped, and the governing parties are far more sensitive
to the thoughts of our community regarding anything related
to the Pirate Parties' platform.
If you talk to your MP, mention the Pirate Party, and its
influence in Germany, and they will start to pay attention!
