Faces of Ubuntu developers - an observation

I'm retired now, but I spent many years managing teams of application
developers. The simple truth is, far more boys than girls head for
technical careers -- and this has gotten worse, not better, in recent
years.

There is one small area where biology enters into it: when a project
approaches deadline, the working hours often go crazy. Mothers generally
want standard working hours, because they take more responsibility for
their children than the fathers do. Other than that, I never saw any
evidence that men can do a better job than women can. The two best
system analysts who ever worked for me were women.

If you took a picture of the system developers at the Bank of America
(to pick a large company at random), I would bet that you would see a
similar gender profile.
