synaptic

Hi all, I need Synaptic manager and I have it downloaded in applications
but every time I enter the password the window appears for a fraction of a
second and than it vanishes. I thought the problem might have been with
Unity so I tried it with Gnome, Gnome classic with the same results. Has
anyone had this problem too?  Thanks
