update manager

I read the launchpad info and I dont understand parts of it but I wonder if
when I rebooted to download the updates and the manager asked to reinsert
the ubuntu live CD to complete the downloads, if this was maybe part of the
problem mentionned in the launchpad article? first time this happened to me
with updates.
