wireless problems with Ubuntu 10.10

If you click the wireless icon then, do any wireless networks show up
at all? (anything it sees should be listed there)

If there isn't, first thing I'd check would be that someone didn't
happen to find the switch to turn off the wireless on the laptop - the
hard way. With Toshiba, could be a physical switch/button, could could
be "fn"+(some key), usually has that wireless "tower" icon on it.

If there are networks listed, trying to connect to another one would
tell you if its working(a secured one should ask for the password/key,
so you'd get some feedback even if you cant get online)
