external card readers

I bought a SD/HC etc.. external card reader and I get the same results with
the Toshiba laptop, next step will be to try all that on my Dell pc with the
same ubuntu 10.10 installed, some time today. It looks more and more like a
Toshiba problem from what I have read. Others have had the same problem.
