Thanks all for the response.

I am running a desktop Dell Dimension 8400 P4 with 4 Gb of ram. A cursory look reveals two outputs from the ATI Video card [VGA and HDMI]

Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10
 Desktop environment: GNOME
Graphics chip: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 5B60 [Radeon X300 (PCIE)]
Driver in use: radeon

Rendering method: AIGLX

In the old days [Win 3.1,95,98] just getting one video card and one display working properly was a chore sometimes. I am wondering about a video upgrade, an additional or replacement card as I have seen/experienced in the past problems with ATI and nVidia cards. In particular the nVidia drivers have rendered darkness on HP and Acer desktops.

>From the replies so far I presume one can mix different display types and sizes as long as the hardware is recognized.

Thanx all !

Bill
