STARS provides FREE refurbished computers for families who don't have
a computer at home!
The computers are donated by local businesses and the public, then
expertly tested & reconditioned by the Bruce Grey Linux Users Group.
To breathe new life into these machines, STARS installs EDUBUNTU, an
Open Source (FREE & LEGAL) Linux operating system which runs
maintenance-free, has iron-clad security and comes with hundreds of
installed applications, all powered by the same technology which
runs most of the Internet! Easily save your work in
Microsoft-compatible formats to open the same files at home and
school.
Computers are distributed through agencies of the United Way or by
direct referral from a school (see STARS project guidelines below).
To request a computer, contact United Way’s STARS project:

STARS GUIDELINES
1. Priority is given first to students with no computer in the home,
then to the general public.
Computers may be provided for the purpose of a science project, a teacher's
letter is required.
2. Students are required to present proof of enrolment (one of the
following: current student card, report card, phone call from the school,
referral from a community agency).
3. There are no guarantees, supply is always limited, first come first
served!
