Much has happened in the week or so since I first suggested donated
computers to aid resettlement and rebuilding by Slave Lake residents.
URL registered: TechnoPresents.ca (redirects)
Requests for computers: 4, since Friday
Offers of complete systems: 2 (now in Edmonton)
Offers of computers without monitors/peripherals: 13 in Edmonton, more
elsewhere over a longer term
Immediate Needs
Work and storage space: unresolved, but likely ENTS in central
Edmonton (membership being arranged)
Hardware Needs: monitors, input devices (mouse, keyboard, etc.)
Other needs: transportation for computers from Edmonton locations to
central location when available (next week)
CD/DVD in quantity to distribute software to evacuees who might be
purchasing replacement computers (OpenDisc, Ubuntu, etc.)
Longer Term Needs:
Transportation to Slave Lake and other locations north of Edmonton
(Athabasca, Westlock, etc.)
Distribution facility in Slave Lake
Monitors and peripherals
Ethernet cable, old routers, etc.
Assistance with wiping and configuring donated computers
We are working various political and other contacts to get help at the
Slave Lake end.
Are there any Ubuntu Canada members in the vicinity of Slave Lake or
nearby communities where there are emergency shelters? Are any of you
able to assist with either distribution or orientation of new Ubuntu
users?
Thanks for all the help!
Ralph Pichie
