compatible ?

Raymond,

I have tried different USB3 external drives, none are consistent in
GNU/Linux, from my experience. Maybe I had old cases. I got fed up with
a Toshiba external USB3 drive and took it out of the case, tried to
reformat, it was not functioning well, so I tried to format it back and
put it back in the case... It just doesn't do USB3 speeds reliably.

My advice is to just go for the best warranty you can get (HGST seemed
to fit the bill for me last time), and hook up SATA drives directly as
you need to, even better if you can hot-swap.

Good luck!
