as far as I know the whole Thinkpad series until today - will be supported
- see more about at thinkwiki.
- I personally provide the t- and r- series pre-installed with 8.10 and
Windows as a dual boot system.
That does not meen, that I remove the Windows License sticker on it (
....since that could be advantageous that you have a valid MS License, when
sell later in his life...)
Kind regards

Hi Dominique,

I'm trying to establish a precedent for brand-name computers without OS,
but it's nearly impossible to achieve. Most brand-name manufacturers do
not have the courage to offer machines without OS to the general public.
I've had some success with Fujitsu-Siemens, so I can get you any
Fujitsu-Siemens laptop (except Amilo series) without OS. There are still a
few compatibility problems on some models, the 72x0 series can't change
the backlight brightness for example. Other than that, they're OK.
I'm also talking to two other brands, but no success so far on that front.
My store's address is http://www.lincomp.ch, but if I can give you a hint,
perhaps don't order anything before Christmas :) Prices will be updated
in January.
Ramon

hello,
see info there ( in french -- sorry !)
http://wiki.swisslinux.org/fr/association/projets/detaxe?s[]=achat&s[]=porta
ble#magasins_suggeres
you can have links to some shops / in german switzerand as well -
saling laptop without os or with linux, but some links seem outdated :-\
one shop in france seem to ship to switzerland as well from its online
store:
http://www.novatux.com/cat.php
they have laptop with ubuntu 8.04
if you buy to steg computer online, you can have desktop computer
without OS, but no more laptop ( since 2007 !!!)
but it is very hard / if not impossible / to find laptop with Linux on
local store in switzerland. And dont' ask them as i did (FNAC, SONY ..
), to remove the microsoft products for you before you buy it, they
won't, they will refuse ... Above all: Dell :which french, italian or
english stores, ( as well as the us store), sale laptops with Ubuntu,
Dell switzerland surprisingly, does not ! ( as i remember: it was a
Dell.com decision two years ago, to offer an alternative to its consumers !)
Do they think swiss consumers are not interested enough ?
It seems that you can ask dell to remove the microsoft system and
products from your computer and give you the money back, but i do not
know how much time you have to spend and how much phone calls you have
to do that bring you to this result ...
cheers
nathalie

It takes about 20 minutes when you are used to.
