Hi all,
there were a lot of things discussed at the Tuesdays meeting, in order to
get everybody updated I'll give a brief summary of what was said.
Present people:
Psy-Q
Tribaal
stgraber
vaiursch
fliegenderfrosch
Mamarok
peppych
First point: Approve the portal content
The general portal content as presented in the "www.ubuntu.ch | finally a
mail about it." mail posted on this list on March 14th was approved. We
further discussed the commercial part though and it came out that we would
like to include the Ubuntu services companies in our community. In order to
achieve this we need to build up a win-win strategy.
Some ideas were proposed but we should IMHO start a dedicated project for
this. Anyhow the point is to create a sort of natural selection where the
most community active companies are more visible then others (talking about
our portal of course).
Now you may ask why should a company be interested in joining our community.
Well first of all, if they sell Ubuntu they love-it. Second if Ubuntu gets
more known, they're market grows. If they get a direct contact to the user
community it may mean potential clients and/or employees for them. Well the
list could go on like this for a while. For us it simply would mean:
sponsoring of any kind, rooms, event drinks, poster/flier printing, etc....
The issue which should be solved in the commercial project would be to setup
services which we could provide such as merchandising, support, etc... in
order to be attractive to those companies.
If anyone is motivated by this project let us know but we need to talk-it
out a little more I think.
Second point: Approve the fundamental portal graphic line and hosting issue.
This point was very quickly discussed. In fact Stéphane Graber (thank you
btw) hosts the site on one of his servers using drupal and this theme
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Some artwork was proposed on the logo to
remind Switzerland though.
Btw vairusch said: "once at a release party in zurich i helped making a
swiss ubuntu logo, no idea where it went..." If someone knows it's may the
moment to send it to the list ;)
Points 3 to 5: Those points would have concerned the RP and haven't really
been discussed because the concerned people weren't present. Anyhow we
decided to keep the parties as they are (date and hour). We wont to
coordinate somewhat more with other orgs like /ch/open for the dates in the
future though.
Furthermore more we would be daylighted to hear from the people who are
working for the RP, as they probably could need some help.
Concerning the RP we made one more decision, as we haven't any news about
the room in Lausanne by now, we will try to find a other one. If the
concerned guy has some news about it, it would be great to let us know
before we've got two of them.
6th point: Team structure:
Here we mainly talked about being an /ch/open Special interest group (SIG)
or not. The discussion went that way because we all agreed that the team
needs a more official structure.
After debating a while about the question to be a SIG or not we came to the
point that we prefer not to. The main points where: independence,
visibility, etc... Anyhow, those guys still do a great work and, we still
will join forces when ever possible.
Ones the first question answered, we've had to find a matching structure.
And the decision felt to become an nonprofits organization.
Some of us are currently searching infos and a attorney at law from my
bodies list would be ready to help. See her help more as a short reviewing
and consulting one, as she offers to do it for free. I mean we have to get
the job done and show her our files afterwards then she tells us: To start
over again or not ;)
A dedicated meeting must be done about this last point because we need to:
Get a clear idea of what it means, establish a charter, propose people who
would be part of the board, elect those people, etc...
I propose to do a brainstorming on the list about all this before the
meeting. It would be awesome if those who've looked for the infos could
start it. (thx in advance)
Ok so far so good, if I forgot any thing or if they're are some comments I
would be pleased to read about-it.
Best Regards
Patrick
