Hello everyone :D
The following text is a rough collection of thoughts, and I wanted to
pass it through the list before adding it on the wiki.
Even though it seems there hasn't been much activity in the past few
weeks, on the contrary I have been working very hard with Marcela
Tiznado to gather all the information necessary to give the team an
overhaul and much more realistic goals.
== FAQ on Ubuntu specifically targeted at Debian Developers ==
I feel that if this information we more available in a targeted way, a
lot of miss-conceptions would be avoided.
A few points I can think of:
* How Ubuntu handles packages imports from Debian
* What happens/might happen with that package once in Ubuntu
* Ubuntu's release cycle (LTS and others)
* What current infrastructure Debian Developers have to gather
information on their packages (bug reports in Ubuntu, patches, newer
upstream versions).
* Ubuntu's relationship with other Upstreams
* Why Ubuntu changes some packages (ie.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DCT/DesktopFiles)
== Bugs ==
Help Debian benefit from bug reports reproducible in Debian and report
them. We would have to work together with the bug triaging team for:
* Hunting for bugs reported in Ubuntu and associating them to BTS bugs
* Reporting critical bugs in Debian and Upstream
== Exporting Translations Upstream ==
* An argument can be made that it's easier to check translations then
to make them from scratch
* Manually sending .po files to upstream
* Eventually find a way to automate this with willing devs/projects
== Repackage for Debian ==
Ubuntu has many packages that are fairly simple to repackage for
Debian. This would benefit Ubuntu by having the packages directly
Upstream and being much more in sync with Debian, and would benefit
Debian as it's a lower barrier of entry for maintainers to start
learning since the package has already been worked on.
It's fairly simple to find what can be packaged by looking at:
http://people.debian.org/~bartm/borg/missing.html
Thoughts?
I'm at debconf at the moment, so I'll be focusing the next weeks
mainly on this project and working on my packaging skills.
