Problem mit der Bildschirmauflösung

Hi!

Ich habe heute Ubuntu-5.04 neu auf meinem Laptop
(Fujitsu-Siemens-Amilo-6100) installiert. Hatte es bereits vorher schon
drauf, wollte aber eine Neuinstallation und Neupartitionierung meiner
Festplatte machen.

Es ging alles OK, die Installation lief ohne Probleme, auch die updates
aus dem Netz habe ich bereits drauf.

Allerdings funktioniert aus irgendeinem Grund die Einstellung für die
Bildschirmauflösung nicht :-(   Ich bekomme nur ein kleines Fenster mit
der Auflösung von 640x480 ! Und das obwohl die Hardwareerkennung meiner
Silicon-Motion-Grafikkarte einwandfrei lief. In der Datei
/etc/X11/xorg.conf  sind bei einer Farbtiefe von 24  alle drei
Möglichkeiten - von 1024x768, 840x600 und 640x480 - eingetragen.
Trotzdem startet der XSERVER nur mit der niedrigsten Auflösung.

Im Gnome-Einstellungsmenü (System-Einstellungen-Bildschirmauflösung)
bekomme ich ausschließlich die niedrigste Auflösung (und nur 60HZ) zur
Auswahl, das heißt, auch hier kann ich keine höhere Auflösung einstellen.

Ich habe bereits mit dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg neu zu konfigurieren,
komme aber - trotz erfolgreicher Hardwareerkennung - immer auf das
gleiche unbefriedigende Ergebnis.

Kann mir bitte jemand mit Tipps weiterhelfen, wie ich zur höchsten
Auflösung von 1024x768 komme? Im Anhang gebe ich meine xorg.conf-datei dazu.

PS: das Eigenartige ist, das ich bei der vorigen Installation von
Ub-5.04 am selben Laptop diesbezgl. keinerlei Probleme hatte. Es lief
mit der höchstmöglichen Auflösung ....
