EchoLink Troubleshooter ver 1.2.0.5
Diagnostic Report for DK8ZF
Prepared Saturday, January 21, 2006 13:43:54 Westeuropäische Normalzeit
*** User Information ***
Callsign: DK8ZF
*** System Information ***
Windows XP Service Pack 1
*** Network Options ***
Shared Internet Connection: No
Wireless: No
*** Security Software Configuration ***
Auto-detected the following security software on your computer:
Zone Labs ZoneAlarm version 6.1.737.000
You indicated that the following security software is installed:
Zone Labs ZoneAlarm
*** Network Configuration ***
Local IP Address: 10.0.0.50
This is a local address that is not directly reachable from the Internet. This usually indicates that your system is using a network address translation (NAT) device, such as a router, as part of your Internet connnection. This is a perfectly normal indication; however, it often means that your firewall or router needs special settings to work correctly with EchoLink. The tests below will confirm this.
Connection type: Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
Shared Internet connection: No
Wireless network connection: No
*** TCP Connectivity Test ***
The TCP test SUCCEEDED.
This means that EchoLink should be able to successfully log in to the EchoLink addressing servers and retrieve the list of stations. No further adjustments to your TCP settings should be required.
The UDP port 5198 test FAILED: Receive failed (10060).
This means that EchoLink cannot communicate with other stations over the Internet. Be sure your router, firewall, or security software is allowing EchoLink to receive messages over UDP ports 5198 and 5199, and that your Internet service provider (ISP) has not blocked this port.
Things to check:
* Some DSL modems have a built-in firewall that must be configured to accept UDP ports 5198 and 5199. Check the modem's documentation, or your DSL provider's customer support, for more information.
* Check your ZoneAlarm documentation for information about how to permit your PC to receive UDP ports 5198 and 5199. If you are using the free version of ZoneAlarm, you must set the security level to Medium while you are using EchoLink. Other versions of ZoneAlarm have advanced settings that allow UDP ports 5198 and 5199 to be accepted, while still in High security mode (recommended).
* If you had used the "Program" or "Server" security settings in your security software, and began having connection problems after upgrading EchoLink, you may need to re-apply your previous security settings. You might also need to apply the same settings to the Troubleshooter program (this program) in order for it to work correctly.
* A few Internet service providers (ISPs) block a range of different UDP ports, including ports 5198 and 5199 used by EchoLink. Although this is relatively rare, check with your ISP if the rest of your configuration appears to be OK.

NOTE: The Microphone volume control appears to be turned up on the Playback volume control panel. This may cause undesirable feedback, if you are using a local microphone, and is not necessary for EchoLink operation. Check and adjust the microphone control (on the PLAYBACK volume control panel).
