create /usr/local/src/wxWidgets

I am using ubuntu8 in a VirtualBox.

I installed rapidSVN with synaptic I tried to checkout the sources of a
SVN. I used to store them in /usr/local/src/wxWidgets.

Of course I have no write access to /usr/local/src and that is why
rapidSVN give me an error about that.

But shouldn't ubuntu ask me for the password in this situations to get
root-rights?

Or what is the smartest way to handle that?
I don't want to store the sources otherwhere, I don't want to go on
shell and modify the rights.
I don't want to start rapidSVN about sudo manualy.

How could I configure the start-menu entry for rapidSVN to start with
sudo? But I think it wouldn't be a good solution to run rapidSVN with
admin-rights all the time. It is overhead I think.
