Hier hast Du aber geschrieben Du hast das installiert:
> sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/ 
brother-cups-wrapper-extra_1.2.1-0ubuntu3_i386.deb 
und das riecht danach als käme es von ubuntu und nicht von Brother.

_Was_ soll ich mit locate suchen? Ich habe nach Brother gesucht [1]

Ich würde alles was mit brother zu tun hat löschen:
dpkg --get-selections | grep -i brother
Alles was da aufgelistet wird löschen mit:
sudo aptitude purge <paketname 1> <paketname 2> [...] <paketname n>

Auf keiner meiner Kisten ist auch nur irgendwas drauf was in irgendeiner Art 
und Weise auf brother hören könnte. Ich habe ein MFC im Netz und da habe ich 
cupswrappermfc5840cn und mfc5840cnlpr installiert. Beide Pakete von Brother - 
nicht von ubuntu. Ich weiß es zwar nicht mehr genau, aber ich kann mich nicht 
erinnern /usr/share/cups/model erstellt zu haben - kann mich aber auch irren. 
Schaden kanns ja jedenfalls nicht.
