default screensaver : why not the blank screen ?

Agreed. At least, a delay of 15 minutes is very reasonable. If the user has
not made the screen activate again for that delay, he's very unlikely to
need it soon. Else, people waste power without noticing, which is a pain
when on battery, and still silly when the power cable is plugged in.
