Hi Ben,

Yes, there is a known regression in 5.15.0-156-generic and its derivatives.

You can find more information on this Launchpad bug.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2126434

The fix is currently in -proposed, will be released shortly. If you
need a fix right now, I suggest installing 5.15.0-160-generic in
-proposed.

Thanks,
Matthew

During testing, journal entries reported a stuck CPU seemingly related to kauditd, and the updates consistently install okay after disabling auditd. A little web searching yielded what appears to be the same issue with Red Hat and Amazon Linux in August, which was determined to be a bug caused by a race condition between auditd and kauditd. Is the same bug in Ubuntu 22? If so, has the bug been fixed (or when will it be fixed)? This issue occurred with auditd version 1:3.0.7-1build1 and linux-generic version 5.15.0.156.154
