in a previous posting i mentioned a problem with gnome-panel- some other
problems that should be easier to fix got to my attention while fiddling
around with the panel problem which leads to a feature that i would like
to request..
* "Restart X" Option at the gdm screen
I recently tried getting dual head video to work and thus had to do some
modifications to X86Config. It did not work straight away i first had to
try out some things. An Option to restart X would have been nice.
Instead i had to kill X each time and I was presented by some info
dialog "Seems like X does not work etc.." When chosing to get the error
output of X only first couple of lines from /var/log/XFree86.0.log were
printed, which is pretty worthless..
Another thing I would like to mention is regards:
* Getting in a stable gnome state after a crash.
I had to kill gnome via "killall -9 gnome-session" a couple of times
because gnome-panel crashed, and would not display anything after
restarting ( it gets started again by some other process when killed.. i
dunno much about gnome in detail... )
when the gnome-session is killed ( or u press ctrl-alt-backspace ) u get
back to the gdm login. When i tried to log into gnome again, gnome just
did not start up at all. No splashscreen or anything. I guess some
process is still running and hence is not started again so u are in a
dead end.. ?
any thoughts on this?
regards,
Tobi
