What exactly is not working for you?

There is a option already that will automatically download the
upgradable debs for you in the nightly cron-job that does the apt-get
update. It just does not have any gui yet. I don't think we should
install the upgrades automatically.

It does not right now. It is planed that the update-manager will
include some details about why the update is needed (at least if you
run it for stable).
