Sound Server vs. Other Solutions?

esd currently seems to be started with no arguments by gnome-session(?).  It
would be nice if arguments could be specified (via gconf?), and we could
specify default arguments of "-as 5" or similar.

Alternatively, /etc/esound/esd.conf seems to allow default arguments to be
specified.

But, this is likely to become obsolete soon, when we move to polypaudio.
Hopefully it has similar functionality.
