dummy packages for restricted content

Sasha,

I would strongly suggest it go in the main restricted repository, if
that exists. These types of packages are common enough to justify
that.

If that wasn't possible I suppose they could go in the universe
catagory. What catagory is the flash-plugin in?

If a maintainer was required I'd volunteer, but I probably don't know
enough about packages to do so. I'm not much of a programmer either,
though I can do some really basic stuff.

One key for making all of this work is making sure the installer
speficifically ask the user which restricted content they would like
to auto-install/download. Take all the burden off the user.

I really think a question about enabling other repositories (ie,
universe) should really asked upon installation. Someone without
sources.list editing experience should be able to have it done
automatically for them. They could just get a warning about those
other packages being unsupported. I suppose I should mention this in a
seperate email to this list, with it as the subject.

So here's a first stab at a partial list:

- Flash Plugin - done
- java - todo
- Nvidia binary drivers - todo
- Ati binary drivers - is this even possible? I have no ati experience in linux.

This functionality really would make the distribution orders of
magnitude better. Lack of java, flash, 3d drivers etc are the first
thing new people notice, and hate about linux.

Lets make it more accessible to new users!

Sincerely,

Joe Crawford
