Ubuntu derivatives : howto ?

I'm the developer of BeatrIX, so let me tell you what we did and maybe
that'll help or not, I dunno.

We started out by using the Knoppix boot loader, then straight into
Debian.

For the release that, well, just got released (This is our second
release; the first was a live-CD only.), we use Knoppix to boot into
Ubuntu and for hard drive install we use a script we modified from the
Kanotix distribution, which is another Knoppix derivative. After
installed to hard drive, it's Ubuntu start-to-finish, I believe.
