i386 version works here on my test i686/400 with ati rage128.

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg had some wrong default entries but I
guess that ok at this stage.  I had to manually set a password for the
ubuntu user, but then I was able to log into gdm. The default session
comes up and shows a correct default dekstop.

Network detection worked for my machine (rtl-8029), dhclient got a
correct IP.
