Sorry, meant to send this to the list. Any way, the point is that
when we talk and think about security we need to think about more than
keeping our own things safe. Security is about protecting the
community of which we are a part and ensuring that we're not
unwittingly harming others.

I would submit that having your box rooted and then having the
attacker use it to serve up kiddie pr0n or other illicit/illegal
activities is much worse that simply using than having your user data
lost or damaged. No one is going to send you to jail for losing your
home directory. Having your box used for illegal activity may well
put you in the position of having to defend yourself.
