Also, the "Preparing to configure apt..."(?) sequence has some problems.
The progress bar behaves strangely (text updated without the progress bar
incrementing), and it asks a question in the middle (apt-setup/another,
with no MESSAGE substituted).

So three show-stopper issues so far:

- amd64 package-cache-names segfault
- Arch-independent X configuration misbehaviour when DDC fails
- Spurious apt-setup question
