I have an idea about this too, which i was planning to implement once
NetworkManager hits breezy. The wpa_cli utility (wpa_cli.c) is easily
transformed to a library which can be used by networkmanager to instruct
wpa_supplicant on association, logins etcetera. This would mean that
wpa_supplicant.conf can stay relatively empty and all configuration can
be stored in networkmanagers config files.
