As promised on irc a moment ago, I'd like to start a brief discussion
about templates available from the "create new file" right-click
dialogue in nautilus.
Particularly annoying for my personal purposes is the fact that I can't
create a new openoffice document via nautilus... This is a functionality
that is one of the only ways in which Windows beats Ubuntu for my type
of computer use.
I understand that a disadvantage of such functionality is that the onus
moves onto users to remove it, but I think that this is a better
situation, which we can easily document, because this functionality will
not be in the way for most users, and many will appreciate it.
I filed this bug at #17154 but got no reply.
I read a previous thread on this list that in general openoffice2-gnome
functionality is not quite ready yet, and that this is the reason for
not having gnome save dialogues in openoffice too, so if this is the
case, I'd like to warmly encourage getting this done for dapper, as
although I'm sure there are loads of cool things to do for dapper, doing
the simple things well is really important.
