| - during bootup, the screen mode switches between text (about 5
| seconds), then graphical usplash (about 40 seconds), then text again
| (about 1 minute). I think these are just too many mode switches. If it
| is not possible to avoid text mode at all during an all-successful
| boot process, there should not be any graphical display at
| all. Usplash would only look professional if it was the only thing
| you'd see.
It doesn't look that way here; it goes directly from gfxboot to
usplash and usplash persists until gdm starts. (It drops to text mode
in between there, because X takes a while to be loaded off the CD)
Which part is taking 40+ seconds for you?

| - The homedirectory of the default "ubuntu" user is owned by root
| rather than ubuntu (https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31991)
~ubuntu/Desktop is, not ~ubuntu. Anyway, fixed.
| - X uses the "vesa" driver, rather than "i810" or "i915" (I have an
| i915GMS). It is easy to edit xorg.conf, but why isn't the correct
| driver selected by default? (https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31995)
what does 'sudo discover --disable-all --enable=pci --format="%V
%M\t%S\t%D\n" video' print ?
