Do Dapper kernels not support vesafb? It seems not.

I have a 1280x768 TFT laptop display. The special VESA mode is 7e.
I am able to get 1280x768 resolution in Fedora Core 5 Test3 using
vga=0x027e.
I wonder why Fedora's works and Ubuntu Dapper's doesn't?
