It is extremely reliable for me; I use it constantly while traveling.

No, it cannot be guaranteed to work, because it is dependent on the exact
combination of hardware in use, and there is a mind-boggling array of
different devices available on the market.

I recommend reporting a bug against linux-source-2.6.15 if hibernation does
not work for you in Dapper.
