That's an use case I already had more than once. I have limited
traffic, so I avoid large downloads when I can. Just yesterday I
reinstalled my girlfriend's box: a minimal Ubuntu system with the
alternate's server option plus some lightweight stuff like fvwm,
tetex, and emacs21 (yeah, don't ask me, she got used to that old
computer and fvwm and doesn't want anything else :) ).

I agree that 'server' is not really appropriate, but offering
'minimal', 'basic', 'bootstrap', or something similar certainly has
non-zero use cases.
