JDBC Connector/J error - show stopper - need fix or source code

Greetings,
    There's a problem with Connector/J committing a fraudulent SQL 
attempt on a database during a getConnection() call using libmysql-java 
version 5.1.6+dfsg-lubuntu2.  The problem is internal to the connection 
request method, the connection is never returned (exception thrown), and 
therefore the show stops hard.  A tremendously gory description is

    There's nothing more I'd like than to nail this myself.  That would 
require access to the source.  Synaptic apparently doesn't have access 
to the source.  From where can I download the source?
