Summary: No video or Ubuntu fails to boot on G4 Towers after
successful installation
Product: Documentation

Status: NEW
Severity: normal

There is a common issue where Ubuntu PowerPC fails to boot, or has no video display, on G4 Towers after a
successful installation. This can happen when the same Mac can boot from the Live CD.
In my case, the problem was caused by a video card using a DVI to VGA adapter. It was resolved by removing the
AGP video card [ 64 MB ATI 9000 - DVI / ADC ] and replacing it with the original one that ran natively VGA [ 16
MB ATI Rage Pro - VGA only ].
Several posters to discussion lists suggest this was also caused by having more than 1 GB of RAM. I did remove
additional RAM but I have not tested this. I consider that the DVI to VGA seemed a more likely culprit as it must
have been messing up the video signal.
