Future direction of Ubuntu Documentation/Meeting times

My views on the recent discussions.
People, this is not a team we have here: a team works together and at
the moment much of the emails and discussions are not aiming at working
together. If things continue like this, every new idea and new
discussion will provoke a flamewar similar to the one that is rapidly
developing today.
Personally I am attracted to the idea of a help project that gives users
an immediate answer to their common questions (although I think we must
find a solution that permits users to access the other more bulky
documentation equally easily).
BUT, I agree that there has not been enough team discussion of the
subject: the project can easily be developed in the team's svn
repository and presented via the mailing list for all to discuss.
However Sean's reaction was totally out of line: yes, I agree that the
project could have had more exposure via the mailing list, but it is
also true that Matthew (PT) has made an effort to present it yesterday
at the meeting, and more discussion can now take place on the list.
On both sides of this argument I feel there has been an attitude which
leads to division rather than unity. All we need to do is start thinking
like a team and these issues will become positive ideas that can be
discussed rather than problems.
Openness and communication (or "noise" as it has been described) are the
only things that will lead us to this result IMHO. New ideas can be
discussed and people (on all sides of an argument) should keep open
minds about the subject.
I've also noticed a disturbing tendency to divide our work on kubuntu
from that on ubuntu: this is totally unacceptable in my opinion, as it
leads to division in the group, whereas we need to look for unity and
teamwork.
Teamwork on an open source volunteer project such as this one is not
easy: keeping our heads down and failing to communicate will lead to
sure failure. However if we communicate properly, we can succeed.
my 2 cents, M
