Reading the Installation for Ubuntu Edgy the introduction section 1.6 states
"This document is meant to serve as a manual for first time Ubuntu users. It
tries to make as few assumptions as possible about your level of expertise.
However, we do assume you have a general understanding of how the hardware in
your computer works"
That sounds very much like me, but when reading about connecting my two
computers together in a network, hopefully by radio, in section 3.3.4 you
state "If your computer is connected to a network --- not a PPP connection
--- you should ask your network's systems administrator "
The circumstances where anyone fitting your description in section 1.6 would
be personally installing a new Operating System into a network which is under
the management of a system administrator are beyond my conception.
However, what is needed in section 3 are the instructions, or guidelines for
someone, a family, with computers at home who wishes to share files over two
or four computers, to build a small network
Linux Magazine for Dec 2006 states that Mandriva Linux 2007 comes in three
versions with 'Discovery' for the Linux beginner etc. There is a huge
opportunity here.
Your version of 'Edubuntu' appears to be aimed at the younger people to get
them involved with Linux, but ' Please ' remember that very few households
have a Network Systems Administrator - at least, not until you give them
the information to become one.
Every Installation guide I have seen has this problem, so please don't take
this personally, be the first to go round it
