Why not a chroot?
You can easily share stuff from one distro (gutsy) to one another
(feisty).
Here is a nice doc:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebootstrapChroot
I used it to build my custom version of Ekiga last SVN on Gutsy, while
my distro is Feisty: I can use my build from Feisty lika any other
application on the desktop :)
As a matter of fact, I've 4 versions of Ekiga currently, using 2 chroots
and 2 repositories. One of them was build on Gutsy yesterday using the
second chroot. But you can also install packages in the chroot like you
do in your distro: you log in the chroot and type "apt-get install
<package>".
chroot is free, learn people how things work, and it really helps.
